Tasting Notes
The 2005 Novy Sonoma County Syrah is a blend of Syrah fruit from 2 warmer climate vineyards in Dry Creek Valley (Unti & Simpson) and cooler climate vineyards in Russian River Valley (Sapphire Hill, Amber Ridge, Christensen, and Parsons) and Bennett Valley (Judge Family). From these vineyards Novy crafted a blend that showcases some of the richness of fruit found in the Dry Creek Valley but that is also balanced by the crisp acidity and more complex, earthy flavors found in our cooler climate locations. This is a rich, bold wine with roasted plum and boysenberry flavors. The mid-palate is lush but it tightens up on the finish (due to the good levels of acidity found in the cool 2005 growing season) and this only promises positive future development. 90 points Wine & Spirits: "The lean, wild blueberry flavors of this syrah are tightly framed by scents of game. It has an herbal spice that reminds of mint and rooibos tea, and succulent acidity to match duck sausage."
