The fresh fruit in the middle of this wine has a lovely sweetness, like Chinese spiced plums. The earthy tannins that surround it have a touch of bitterness and an herbal edge. This is a solidly built mountain Cabernet, needing age to mellow its tannin.
The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot) exhibits a dense blue/purple color that remains youthful looking. Crunchy red and black currant fruit intermixed with notes of licorice, forest floor and tobacco leaf emerge from this medium to full-bodied, refreshing Cabernet Sauvignon. The acids are vibrant yet well-integrated. Less evolved than I would have expected at age ten, this young wine has a decade of life ahead of it. (RP) 91+
