Production of the 1999 Zinfandel Guiseppe and Luisa (made from the same clone planted in the Jackass Hill Vineyard) is a whopping 1,600 cases. The dense plum/purple color is accompanied by a glorious perfume of jammy blackberry and cassis fruit, an unctuous, opulent texture, high glycerin (17% alcohol), and a dry, long, dense, pure finish. This is a stunning, flamboyant Zinfandel elixir to drink over the next 6-10 years. (RP)
Saturated bright, deep ruby. Knockout nose combines blackberry, orange peel, tar, bitter chocolate and black pepper. Great sweetness and size in the mouth; powerful, dense and deep but avoids the roasted, pruney character shown by so much zinfandel at this level of ripeness (the Martinellis thinned the fruit up to a week before the harvest to even out the ripeness of the grapes). Thick but lively. This has extraordinary fruit. Very long, resounding finish features big but ripe tannins. A remarkable zinfandel from vines planted in the early 1990s. (ST)
