Tasted at Taylor’s tawny seminar in London. Pale mahogany core with a tawny rim. The nose has a generous, nutty bouquet with semblances towards a Bual that ebb with time. Very fine definition, the nose opening up with time with a touch of antique furniture shop, honey, juniper berries, dried apricot and sloe. The palate has a peppery entry with touches of soy and Chinese 5-spice, expanding nicely across the mouth but maintaining focus. Its judicious oxidative elements impart potent walnut, smoke and red pepper flavours towards the mellow, understated, sumptuous finish. Wonderful. Tasted October 2010. (NM-Wine Journal)
*Editors' Choice* A superb wine, elegance and weight combined magisterially. It has all the right mature flavors, ripe fruit, intense marmalade and concentration. This is a wine with a great reputation, and the taste doesn’t let that reputation down.
Porto 40-Year-Old Tawny This wine's delicate apple and pear flavors finish on honeyed sweetness and wood spice, from nutmeg to cinnamon. Hints of butter brickle show off its long years in cask. An elegant after-dinner pour.
Pure and balanced, with candied ginger, dried apricot, citrus peel and dried apple flavors. The intense finish features mineral and spice, with notes of white chocolate. Drink now.
Amazingly fresh and broad on the nose, with lots of nuts, dried fruit, intense and length concentration and a rich mouthfeel with brisk finish. Cerebral, but easy to drink, with each sip lasting a long time. 17.5/20 points. (RH)
