This is the second release of Etude "Deer Camp" Pinot Noir and the first of the winery's two vineyard-designated wines. The wine comes from a unique parcel of the western-facing Deer Camp Vineyard tucked away in the northwest corner of the Carneros appellation. The well-drained Kidd Stony Loam soils contribute to small vines that tend toward dark fruit and overtly structured expressions with balanced acidity. The 2005 vintage's bouquet is saturated with boysenberry and blueberry aromas dusted with cloves, smoke, fresh-tilled earth and lavender notes. Full-bodied on the palate, the flavors are rich—black cherry, blackberry and cola—with ample tannins and bright acidity. Only 524 cases produced. This wine is already out of stock at the winery.
