Foley's 2006 Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir comes from Rancho Santa Rosa in Santa Barbara County. This historic 460-acre ranch was purchased by William P. Foley II in 1998 and is prized for its elevation and variety of soil types and exposures, including a magnificent 230-acre south-facing hillside vineyard. The resulting wine was aged for one year in 25% new French oak and is a deep garnet color. The nose is redolent of dark blak and blue fruit with hints of mushroom, black tea and smoked meat. In the mouth, the wine shows well-integrated tannins framing plump, juicy fruit with just a hint of spice. Delightful now, this wine has plenty of stuffing to age for another 5-10 years.
