This wine comes from Stan Buchignani's ranch, located on Dutcher Creek Road, in the far northwestern reaches of the Alexander Valley. Most of the Carignane was planted in the 1940s, though the first block dates back to 1927. Similar in climate to the upper Dry Creek Valley, the ranch experiences warm days and cool, breezy nights. The 2003 is Ridge's fifth Buchignani vintage, this one aged for 11 months in three- to six-year old American oak barrels. The wine is remarkably balanced, showing subtle fruit and refreshing acidity, which will have helped it age well. This wine is a Ridge Advance Tasting Program (ATP) selection, super-small production wines sent directly to ATP members.
