The 2005s include the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, which, like all of its siblings, tips the scales at 14.7% natural alcohol. It has classic crème de cassis, cedar wood and a touch of graphite. In many ways Larkmead’s 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is a Napa Valley version of the famous fifth-growth Pauillac, Château Pontet-Canet, performing at first-growth levels. Drink this over the next 10-12 years. (RP)

Good full medium ruby. Aromas of dark chocolate, spices, flowers and fresh herbs. Offers tobacco leaf and bitter chocolate flavors, and a creamy-sweet texture that seems more merlot than cabernet. Finishes with soft tannins. (ST)
