93 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Tinto (Quinta Vale D. Maria) is delectable, with gorgeous fruit. It has structure, too, and with air its penetration and grip become obvious. It may not be quite as bold as its 2003 counterpart, but its balance is better. Make no mistake, however – the reason for this wine’s existence is to be seductive and sexy. The fruit opens nicely, a tasty cross between plums and strawberries. Although the 2003 shows better at the moment, this has a chance to equal and surpass with a couple of years in the cellar. Drink 2008-2016." (02/07) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Lush and flavorful, with balance and elegance to the red plum, berry and savory spice elements. Well-crafted, with silky tannins and a creamy finish of paprika and cardamom. Drink now through 2010. 250 cases imported." (12/06) 91 points from International Wine Review: "The 2004 Quinta Do Vale D. Maria displays a saturated garnet color with intense aromas of chocolate, red plum and smoke. In the mouth it is rich and velvety with high toned fruit flavors, excellent balance, nicely sculpted tannins and a long finish."

If you’ve been wondering what dry Portuguese reds are all about, this wine is the perfect place to start. Luscious dark plum and blackberry mingle with hints of smoky vanilla on the palate. Very soft in the mouth with just a little grip on the finish. A great wine at $45 and an absolute STEAL at $30!
