Another stunner, and the best of the trilogy, is the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford. Amazingly, this all came from the J.J. Cohn vineyard that produces the wine called Scarecrow today. Dense bluish purple in color with notes of incense, graphite, acacia flowers, blueberry and blackberry, as well as cassis fruit, this is a powerful, full-bodied, strong, rich quintessential Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that still seems quite youthful, but can be approached now. It should continue to drink well for another two decades. This is a gorgeous wine! (RP)
Good medium-deep red-ruby. Wild, ripe aromas of berries, smoke and leather; clearly higher in pH than the 2005. Big, rich and full, with a lovely sweetness to the berry, black cherry and melted licorice flavors. Really spreads out on the back, finishing with substantial but suave dusty tannins. (ST)
Very Bordeaux-like in its balance and structure. Has wonderful intensity and focus, with tight, vivid, loamy earth, dried currant, sage and mineral flavors that are tight, framed by fine-grained tannins and subtle toasty oak. (JL)
