91 points from Wine Spectator: "Light, silky and open-textured, with vivid currant and blackberry flavors, shaded with spice and black olive notes, lingering nicely on the generous finish. Drink now through 2014." (12/08) 91 points from Allen Meadows' Burghound: "Relatively prominent notes of reduction dominate the nose and I would strongly advise readers to decant this first for at least 20 minutes as that definitely helped. Beneath the reductive funk there are otherwise pretty aromas of briar, smoked meat and ripe dark berry fruit notes that lead to vibrant, detailed and energetic medium-bodied flavors that possess an attractive mouth feel and fine length and depth. While there is a touch of warmth, this is really quite complex and this should be capable of rewarding 5 to 6 years of cellar time." (10/08) The 2006 Casteel Reserve is a blend of select barrels from several vineyard sites including the Bethel Heights Wädenswil Block and Seven Springs Vineyard. The 2006 vintage, like previous vintages (the 2005 was rated 92 points by Robert Parker) is elegant and complex. Its bouquet is full of black cherry and currant fruit touched by oak spice. In the mouth the Pinot is full of ripe, rich black and red fruits. Its vibrant acidity and subtle tannins give it length and the structure to improve in your cellar for up to five years.
