Tasting Notes

Abe Schoener's Scholium Project was recently named one of the San Francisco Chronicle's Six New Cult Wines. Trained by chardonnay impresario John Kongsgaard, Schoner's style takes a barel-by-barrel approach, invoking the create approach of Italian wine mavericks like Josko Gravner. The Naucratis is 100% tank-fermented verdelho from Lost Slough Vineyard. With none of the floral qualities of previous vintages, this wine comes across like a gruner impersonator: distinctive minerality, white flowers and stone fruit notes on the nose. But it's a muscular, masculine wine on the palate, with sweet fruit and flowers. A great pairing for your favorite Thai or Indian dishes.
