The 2005 Chardonnay Rachel’s Vineyard boasts a liqueur of crushed rocks intermixed with flowers, white currants, peaches, and lemons. Superb acidity and richness as well as a magnificent finish characterize a wine that could easily be confused with a Coche-Dury Meursault Perrieres ... it’s that phenomenal. Consume it over the next decade. Kudos to Tom Rochioli, one of the wine world’s great guys who, without any fanfare, continues to turn out world-class wines of extraordinary aromatic and flavor dimensions.
From hillier plantings on the steep slopes of the winery’s estate vineyard, this is a compact young Chardonnay. It’s intense in lemon mousse, green apple, key-lime pie and vanilla caramel, with a minerally, tangy bite of flint or metal. Finishes very dry and crisp. Cellar for up to six years.
Green gold. Intensely smoky aromas of yellow plum, pear and white peach, accented by strong mineral notes. Fresh and mineral-dominated, with an airy quality to the vibrant orchard fruit and citrus pith flavors. The clean, focused finish features a whiplash of concentrated peach and melon flavors. Impressively elegant, restrained chardonnay with deceptive power. All Mount Eden clone here.
