Potent but smooth, velvety black fruits and dark chocolate; excellent tannins and length.
The extraordinary 2003 Shiraz Lily’s Garden exhibits an inky ruby/purple hue to the rim in addition to a stunning aromatic display of blackberries, cassis liqueur, licorice, smoky oak, sweet chocolate, and espresso roast. A fabulously concentrated, multidimensional, layered wine with power, elegance, and a seamless personality, it can be drunk young or cellared for a decade or more. (RP)
Raw, powerful and muscular, with vivid, sharply etched blackberry, black cherry and peppery spice aromas and flavors, persisting impressively on the finish, veering toward tart. Needs time to settle into itself.
Deep glass-staining ruby. Dense, liqueur-like aromas of blackberry, black cherry, plum, coffee candy, and licorice. Full and sweet but also very fresh, with lively blackcurrant and blackberry flavors accented by sweet, cracked pepper. Quite open already, with sweet, fresh dark berry notes persisting and building as the wine opens in the glass. (JR)
Good McLaren Vale shiraz often develops this wine's floral scents, hinting at the smoke off chipped stone. This one is still a bit raw and young at the front, but it builds to a luscious and delicious close. Cellar it to let the blackness of tannin evolve, or decant a bottle now for spicy lamb kebabs.
