Tasting Notes

93 points and a Cellar Selection from Wine Enthusiast: "Tasted exactly two years after the vintage, Failla's estate Pinot was so dry, tough and tight in acids and tannins as to be nearly undrinkable, although serious decanting will help it. But it's an ager, to judge from the dense core of feral wild berries, cola, grilled meat bone and Asian spice flavors. Most of the 1,200 bottles will probably be opened too early, but if you can, hold onto it until after 2012." (02/09) 90 (+?) points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(the first release for this bottling) Good deep red-ruby color. Wild, rather exotic aroma of liqueur-like black cherry. Big, rich and dry, with very good inner-mouth aromatic character to the black cherry and licorice flavors. This big but slightly unrefined pinot finishes with rather powerful tannins." (Sept/Oct '08) From Robert Parker: "From Ehren Jordan’s own estate vineyard, the 2006 Pinot Noir Estate exhibits a dark ruby color, a delicate style much like the other 2006 Pinot Noirs, more structure than some, medium body, and sweet notes of raspberry, cherry, and cola, with some forest floor in the background. The wine needs at least a year of bottle age and should drink nicely for 5-6." (Dec. 2007)
