The 2007 Estate Cuvée is 49% Syrah, 37% Cabernet and 14% Petit Verdot up in 100% new French oak. Another ripe, sexy red that does everything right, it offers tons of plums, blackberry jam, spice box and licorice, with hints of violets. Hitting the palate with a voluptuous, rounded, layered texture that just begs another drink, it’s right in the middle of its drink window yet can safely be kept for another decade in cool cellars.
(49% syrah, 37% cabernet sauvignon and 14% petit verdot) Glass-staining purple. Wild, pungent aromas of dark berry preserves, apricot, violet and incense; reminds me of a high-end northern Rhone wine. Deeply concentrated but graceful, displaying sweet blackberry and boysenberry flavors and a slow-building spiciness. The floral note recurs on the finish, which is spicy, focused and extremely long. (JR)
Firm and taut, with grapey berry, currant, mineral and herbal notes. Full-bodied and complex, offering plenty of fruit purity, floral scents and a taut framework. A blend anchored by Syrah and Cabernet that works. Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. (JL)
This fully ripened, solidly structured wine boasts a wealth of extracted blackberryish fruit filled out by lots of somewhat toasty, rich and spicy notes in both nose and mouth. Its tannins are firm without being massive, and the wine's fleshy, supple, early texture on the palate is kept in good balance by the deep fruit and supportive astringency. This would be a great mate to braised short ribs in a rich, well-seasoned sauce.
