Just as good, the 2007 Côte à Côte starts out tight and reserved, but blossoms with time in the glass, showing incredibly pure creme de cassis, black cherry, licorice and spice-driven aromas and flavors. These all flow to a full-bodied, deep, rich and layered profile on the palate that carries beautiful concentration, excellent overall purity and freshness, and a blockbuster finish. Still youthful and vibrant, with obvious structure, I think there’s some upside here, and when all is said and done, it will have upward of two decades or more of total longevity. (JD) 96+
A blend of 40/40/20 Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, the 2007 Côte à Côte is gorgeous. Plums, graphite, licorice, toasted spice and hints of meatiness give way to a full-bodied, yet elegant red that’s lightly textured, beautifully balanced and long. Just a gorgeous drink, with very fine tannin, drink it anytime over the coming decade.
Opaque ruby. Potent dark berry and cherry scents are complicated by notes of licorice, smoked meat, violet and fruitcake. Lush, spicy and energetic, offering sweet dark fruit flavors and a refreshing hint of bitter cherry. Seamless and alluringly sweet, with strong finishing lift and outstanding clarity. You could easily enjoy this sexy wine right now. (JR)
Darker than most of the wines in a big Rhône tasting, this dramatic Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre bottling is full-bodied and rich. It offers waves of chocolate and blackberries, with oak providing a smoky, butterscotchy overlay.
A ripe, racy style, pushing the flavors to the edge of raspberry balsamic, yet this is still fresh, vibrant and lively, with excellent acidity and range of flavors, extending from mineral to dried berry, black tea, black licorice and crushed rock. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. (JL)
