One of the best base cuvees out there is easily the 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape from Janasse. This crazy good wine (which was a smoking value on release) offers terrific freshness and purity as well as full-bodied richness, sweet tannin, notes of dark berry fruits, sappy herbs and pepper and a huge mid-palate. It’s firing on all cylinders today but will evolve easily for another decade. Drink now-2017 (JD)
Opaque ruby. Spicy raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by garrigue and Asian spices. Sweet, focused red fruit flavors are given spine by zesty minerality and pick up an exotic floral quality with air. Expands nicely on the finish, leaving behind sweet lavender pastille and raspberry notes. (JR)
Plush, with delicious purity to the crushed plum, macerated currant and warm fig flavors. Dark and racy through the finish, with a mouthwatering graphite edge. Superlong and precise. (JM)
