David Low, Anthony Filiberti and Webster Marquez are the three winemaking partners at Anthill Farms. All are ex-Williams Selyem, specialists in Pinot Noir who started their own label in 2004 (see W&S, 4/08). They work closely with their growers, including Ron Black at his Tina Marie Vineyard in Green Valley, where the close-planted vines produced this idealized Russian River wine in 2007. It has the blissful coastal transport you might feel tubing down river, or hiking the hills of Armstrong Redwoods State Park. There's the clarity of the color, the salted strawberry flavor, the plushness of the silken texture, all combining in a wine that runs on natural grace.
Hazy medium red. Deep cherry and dark berries on the nose. Juicy, sweet and precise, offering vivid cherry and blackberry flavors and a slow-building note of smoky minerals. Impressively deep and pure, with dusty tannins adding grip to the long, smoky finish. This one should be stashed away for a while. (ST) 92+
A relatively high-toned nose of red raspberry and cranberry with an herbal hint gives way to delicious, detailed and nicely balanced middle weight flavors that possess fine if not outstanding depth and length. Lovely and understated.
