From the 7-acre estate vineyard (Juslyn owns a total of 40 acres), the deep, dark ruby/purple-hued 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot) exhibits notions of crushed rocks, subtle oak, blackberries, blueberries, and cherries. It possesses full body, excellent purity, a multidimensional mid-palate as well as texture, and a lovely finish. (RP)
This huge, mountain-grown wine holds plenty of everything, and holds it all in balance. Layers of spice, bold black fruit, aromatic earthiness and alcohol all meld into a complete and harmonious blast of flavor. The intensity only gains with air, savory as fine bittersweet chocolate. Age should bring out its herbal complexities; to serve with braised short ribs.
Juslyn's top wine is just under the legal limit to call it Cabernet Sauvignon. It's surprisingly soft and accessible for a Spring Mountain Cab, offering immediate pleasure with its juicy, upfront blackberry liqueur and cocoa flavors. It's certainly a complex, balanced, elegant wine, and quite drinkable now. But it should hold and even improve for a decade.
