Like all of the wines at Arietta in this vintage, the 2005 Red Wine H Block boasts striking aromatics and tons of sheer allure. Rose petal, star anise, dried cherries, blood orange and spices give the 2005 its exotic personality and aromatic lift. This is another superb 2005 from Arietta. (AG)
This intriguing blend from the famous Hudson Vineyard is 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot. A lesson in the complexity of Cabernet Franc is at hand with this brilliant wine. Distinctive and intellectually pleasing notes of mulberry, forest floor, spring flowers and spice jump from the glass of this dark plum/ruby-colored wine with some lightening at the edge. It is medium-bodied, round and generous, with silky tannins and a plush texture. This is how gorgeous Cabernet Franc, when blended with Merlot, can be. Interesting that the alcohol is relatively lofty at 14.8%, which is completely obscured by the wine’s sheer elegance and complexity. (RP)
Bright medium ruby. Wonderfully minerally, complex aromas and flavors of black raspberry, violet, graphite, mocha and truffle. Then plush, dense and smooth but very young, even a bit ungiving, in the mouth, with terrific intensity and energy promising a very slow evolution in bottle. This has the firm tannin/acid spine of a great Brunello. Still a baby. (ST) 94+
Offers complex aromas of mocha, espresso, rich plum, and berry, with shades of anise, licorice, light cedary oak, and cigar box. Ends with rich, full tannins that are supple and graceful. At a prime drinking stage. (JS, Web—2015)
