The most limited single-vineyard Pinot Noir is the 2007 Stone Corral. Sweet black cherry and black raspberry fruit intermixed with some subtle new oak and earth emerge from this dark ruby/purple-tinged wine. The most fruit driven of the single-vineyard reds, and slightly more concentrated-- or is it just that the fruit is so much more present? -- this Pinot displays the same forest floor complexity intermixed with all the red and blue fruits, seems fuller-bodied and just has something about it that is more seductive and complex. I hesitate to recommend it so highly, given the fact that it’s the most limited in availability of the single-vineyards, but the fruit quality in this wine is just beautiful. Tasting it professionally, it was hard not to keep going back for a second and third glass, just to see how it developed. (RP)
Optimally ripened cherries may be the centerpiece of this very deep and impressively filled wine, yet there nuances of caramel, violets, sweet cream and sandalwood that make it much more than a simple study in fruit. Equally noteworthy for its fine sense of polish and balance, it is uncommonly graceful for such a big, mouthfilling wine and, while keen acidity brings the right note of brightness, it does nothing to stiffen or coarsen the wine. *Two Stars*
Fresh raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by notes of cinnamon and mace, with a suave floral quality gaining strength in the glass. Spicy and focused on the palate, offering sweet red fruit flavors and a strong jolt of peppery spice. Brisk, energetic and pure, with strong finishing lift, cut and persistence. (ST)
