Saturated red. Captivating aromas of cherry-cola, pepper, Indian spices, cocoa powder and sandalwood. Then intense, spicy and penetrating in the mouth, with vibrant raspberry and wild strawberry flavors dominating. Finishes pungent, spicy and long, with a palate-staining whiplash of flavor. This calls for another five years of aging. (ST)
Generally among our favorite Williams Selyem Pinots, the Westside Road Neighbors bottling is, in this outing, a deep but slightly hidden wine. Keen and concentrated and a bit firmer in balance, it is at once well-stuffed and still on the nervy side. If needing time in which to unfold, it nonetheless shows a good dose of very confident young fruit, and its present impressions of pertness should give way to layered richness after three or four years have passed.
You don’t want to drink this wine now. It’s way too tannic, which also accentuates the acidity. It all makes for a tough palate experience, despite rich raspberry, cherry, cola and cedar flavors. So stash this vastly interesting Pinot Noir in your cellar for 3-5 years. But if you can’t, decant. Even overnight. *Cellar Selection*
