Tasting Notes

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid red. Deep, smoky aromas of dark cherry, blackberry and licorice, with a sexy rose nuance adding complexity. The dark fruit notes repeat on the palate, which is velvety, seductively sweet and gently framed by fine-grained tannins. The most concentrated of these pinots, with impressively deep dark fruit character and excellent finishing thrust." (May/June '09) 90-92 points from Robert Parker: "Beautiful black raspberry and black cherry fruit as well as forest floor jump from the glass of the 2007 Pinot Noir Cahill Lane. Made from Dijon clones 115 and 114, as well as some of the Rochioli heritage clone, this is a full-bodied beauty, with medium ruby/plum color, lots of sweet fruits, and plenty of earthiness in a decidedly Burgundian style, perhaps a Cote de Nuits." (Dec 08) If it is at all possible, I think the wines from Walter Hansel get better and better every year. The cherry on top is that the winery hasn't changed their prices in something like six vintages. This kind of quality for such a great price is becoming quite rare, so take advantage while you can. I mean, where else are you going to get a powerful nose of cinnamon gum, mulling spices and muddled cherry? Plus the fleshy gobs of fresh raspberry, rock candy and cola, all on a silky soft frame make this something to behold. Drink it now, drink it later, either way you have an awesome Pinot on your hands. (Bryan Brick, K&L)
