Based on the same blend as Yellow Label with 12 percent pinot noir added, this is round, creamy and rich, a satisfying rosé that integrates juicy fruit sweetness, toasty lees and a gentle lift of acidity.
The new release of Veuve Clicquot non-vintage Brut Rosé is composed of a blend of roughly forty-five percent pinot noir, fifteen percent pinot meunier, twenty-eight percent chardonnay, with the balance of the cuvée made up of still red wine. Roughly a third of the blend is made up of reserve wines. The bouquet is bright and zesty, offering up scents of cherries, a hint of pomegranate, good minerality, warm bread and a topnote of dried rose petals. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied and nicely balanced, with a youthful profile, perfectly respectable depth at the core, frothy mousse and a long, snappy finish. This is still a young wine and the dosage is probably a touch more generous to buffer the acidity of youth, but the wine is nicely focused and balanced and is another impressively successful non-vintage bottling from the new technical team at Clicquot. I would love to see this bottling someday down the road spend another year aging sur latte and given a slightly lower dosage.
The rich, salmon-colored NV Brut Rosé (base 2012 with a dosage of nine grams) was launched ten years ago for the first time. Based on the Yellow Label cuvée, but colored with red wine, the newest edition offers intense and ripe red fruit aromas on the clear nose. Fresh, elegant and finesse-full on the palate, this is a warm and lush character with ripe cherry flavors, fine tannins, some leather aromas and a serious finish. This is a serious expression of easy-drinking Pinot Noir. (SR)
Light, bright orange. Fresh redcurrant and strawberry aromas are complemented by notes of orange zest and anise. Brisk, mineral-accented red fruit flavors are slightly pinched but gain depth with air. Finishes with a bitter blood orange quality and firm grip. (JR)
