One of the finest Mönchhof wines of recent times, this is long, lively and complex, driven by its minerality and demonstrating a harmonious balance and poise. The slate expression is profound, anchoring ripe flavors of pear and citrus.
Rich, vibrant and spicy, with peach, nectarine and mineral aromas and flavors unfolding with grace and intensity. There's a piquant liveliness, and this ends long and satisfying. Drink now through 2028. *Highly Recommended* (BS)
Even more juicy – and certainly more refined, if also sweeter – than its Treppchen counterpart, the Monchhof 2008 Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Spatlese smells of lily, strawberry, and white peach, with hints of quinine, wet stone, and peach kernel helping to offset the impression of sweetness and carrying into a sustained, intensely-flavored, yet delicately refreshing finish. This classy example of its site, Prädikat, and vintage should cellar well for 15 years. (DS)
