93 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky violet. Hypnotic aromas of dark berry preserves, incense, violet oil and Indian spices, plus a sexy note of apricot. Succulent, mineral-driven red and dark berry flavors stain the palate, with velvety tannins providing shape. Gains sweetness with air, picking up notes of candied flowers and spicecake that carry through the finish. Impressively energetic, pure syrah that's delicious now but will age well too." (Nov/Dec '09) 92+ points from Robert Parker: "Another offering with exceptional intensity, purity, texture, and depth is the 2005 Syrah White Hawk Vineyard. It, too, possesses 15.3% natural alcohol. Sweet tannin along with blackberry, charcoal, blueberry, and crushed rock characteristics provide beautiful focus heightened by crisp underlying acidity. This beauty can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15 years." (Aug. 2009) 92 points and two stars from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines: "This intense, broad-shouldered Syrah bows a bit deeper to ripeness than most of its kin, but, if a full and comparatively fat wine, it shows the Ojai penchant for very deep fruit and is fit with keen varietal spice albeit with slightly riper styling. Rich and viscous and a touch lighter in tannin, it is ahead of its more firmly built mates on the aging curve and will be approachable in a couple of years.
