As the late picking date would suggest, this is a very ripe and wonderfully nuanced wine with a brilliantly complex nose of white peach, pear, exotic yellow fruits, acacia blossom and citrus hints that complement perfectly the rich and monumentally constructed flavors that possess an almost chewy texture yet the mouth feel is one of satin and silk, all wrapped in a palate staining mildly toasty finish that displays impeccable balance and incredible length. To call this a knockout seems almost like faint praise but it is one genuinely stunning wine that should live for 30 to 40 years.
Poured blind at the domaine. This is a brilliant, brilliant Montrachet. It is bridled with an indescribably complex bouquet has you instantly entranced: honeysuckle, Kaffir lime, crushed stones and a hint of hazelnut. Very intense and powerful, a nose that wants to indelibly imprint itself on your memory. The palate does not disappoint. You are instantly taken by the purity of the slightly botrytized fruit that lends this Montrachet a hedonistic personality, a viscous texture with background notes of honey inflecting the flavour profile from start to finish. Perfect acidity, jaw-dropping balanced and immense power, leading to a creamy finish where there is still some new oak to be subsumed. What a mesmerising wine. Riveting. (NM)
Bright full yellow. Knockout, soil-inflected nose combines menthol, honey, wild herbs, crushed stone, minerals and a whiff of caramel. Wonderfully ripe and sweet but with a light touch, thanks to its powerful stony character. The flavors of pineapple and pungent iodiney minerality saturate the palate and build slowly and inexorably. A white Burgundy of extraordinary texture and nuance. (ST)
Creamy, open-knit and resonant in the glass, the 2007 Montrachet is incredibly appealing, with phenomenal length and tremendous poise. The 2007 is not a blockbuster wine, rather it is built more along the lines of vintages like 2001 and 2004 that are more about finesse than richness. On this night, it is positively sublime. (AG)
Shows a complex, alluring nose of butterscotch, hazelnut and lime blossom, with coconut accents from the new oak. Starts out sumptuous, anchored by the fine structure, buttery intensity and underlying citrus and mineral flavors, ending with a long, salty, slightly leesy aftertaste. (BS, Web Only-2012)
Extremely dense with a bone dry finish and notes on the way there of walnuts, spice, an edge of green verve and a lightly smoky finish. Decanted, this could be enjoyed already. (JR) 18.5/20 points
