From its intense, impressively layered aromas of currants, sweet spice, dusty soils and dried flowers to its very deep, genuinely complex flavors, this wonderfully rich wine hits every Cabernet mark with complete confidence. It is weighty without being the least bit heavy, and it shows a fine fit of integral tannins while remaining ever supple in feel. It is no tougher than young Cab will be, and its combination of structure, strength and insistent fruit is the recipe for real success. Allow for at least five years of additional age, and count on it developing famously for another decade or more. *3 Stars*
The new Rubicon, which is almost all Cabernet Sauvignon, brings to mind the 2003 and 2004. It doesn’t have the sheer force of 2002 or 2005, but it’s certainly a classic Rutherford wine, and has a good future. Bone dry, it shows herb-infused flavors of blackberries, cocoa, spices and smoky sandalwood, and yes, the tannins are dusty. *Cellar Selection*
Brimming with rich, youthful currant, blackberry, licorice and savory oak and spice notes. Has it all in depth, focus, range of flavor and persistence. Awfully tempting now, yet there's an upside as this gains layers on a long, sustained finish.Drink now through 2028. (JL, Web Only-2016)
Cabernet Sauvignon based proprietary red is finely honed, sophisticated and mannered. Pretty aromas of cassis, mineral and a trace of herbs. Ideal ripeness, polished tannins and judicious use of oak. 18/20 points. (LM)
