The first year all from estate fruit, the 2008 Optimus is a beautiful blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Syrah, and 24% Petit Verdot. It exhibits a deep, purple color and the Cabernet takes center stage, with loads of black fruits, tobacco, herbs, and touches of lavender on the nose. These give way to a medium to full bodied, balanced, silky palate that shows loads of texture, good concentration, and a long finish.
Inky purple. An explosively perfumed bouquet displays scents of blackberry, violet, rose and incense, with a strong note of smoky Indian spices. Open-knit, sappy dark fruit flavors show no rough edges and pick up notes of licorice and mint with air. Alluringly silky on the finish, which repeats the floral and spice notes. (JR)
