This is rich and very long with a solid core of fruit that starts off sort of linear but opens and gives it all. Full and velvety textured with ripe tannins and violet, berry, and spice with hints flowers. Long and racy. Classy. 40% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre. Why wait?
Inky purple. Cassis, blueberry and smoky Indian spices on the expansive, heady nose, with a sexy floral quality that gains strength with air. Deep, sappy and palate-coating dark fruit compote flavors show unlikely energy and become spicier with air. Strikingly expressive, potent and compellingly fragrant wine that finishes with remarkable clarity and sweet persistence. This was raised in 100% new French oak, but I'd never have guessed it. (JR)
The 2008 Estate Cuvee offers a seamless, elegant feel with its blackberry, coffee bean, licorice and toasty aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, lightly textured and fresh, it’s still youthful and vibrant, with sweet tannin and excellent length. While it lacks the depth of a top vintage, it’s still a beautiful wine that’s a joy to drink. It should easily evolve gracefully through 2023. (JD)
