The 2003 Zinfandel Grist Vineyard (250 cases from rocky volcanic mountaintop soils) tips the scales at a whopping 15.7% alcohol, but it is completely concealed behind copious quantities of briery and raspberry fruit as well as some peppery, loamy soil notes. With excellent acidity, a cool climate character, good ripeness, and plenty of power. (RP)
Medium dark red. Red cherry, dried berries and pepper on the nose; very Zinfandel. Then juicy and bright on the palate, with very good definition and grip. Sappy, spicy berry flavors are supported by a firm tannic spine. This, too, would appear to need three to five years of additional bottle aging. 90+ (ST)
