Absolutely sensational, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Howell Mountain is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot. It reveals a strikingly provocative aromatic display of blue and black fruits, crushed rocks, violets, and a hint of chocolate. This full-bodied, dense, classic mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is built for long-term aging. Its opaque purple color, awesome concentration and texture, and foreboding personality suggest 5-6 years of bottle age is warranted. It should drink well over the following 30+ years. Dark, opaque ruby. Subdued but pure nose hints at cassis, espresso, bitter chocolate and nutty oak, nicely lifted by a floral topnote. Sweet and seamless in the mouth; less obviously fruity than the 2008 model but smooth and long, with the violet character carrying through to the lingering, ripely tannic finish. (ST)
Tightly wound, firm and intense, featuring a core of spicy currant, mineral, sage and dried berry. Full-bodied and layered, and for all its austerity, there's a juiciness to the flavors, ending with minerally tannins and lead pencil. Best from 2011 through 2020. (JL)
