Tasting Notes

The aroma is defined by earth and forest floor, mushroom, moss, and damp earth. As the wine opens with air, these aromas give way to brambly raspberry and spice. The palate ranges from deep minerality and early bing cherries to orange zest and currant, but it is the taut core of acidity that drives this wine.

Twin brothers Terry and Ted Casteel planted their first sustainable vines in the Eola Hills way back in 1977, and created their first estate wine in 1984. Terry is the vineyard manager, Ted the winemaker, and together they have achieved a vinous body of work comparable to, well, the Coen Brothers… they fashion inspired, thoughtful, artfully-balanced Pinot Noirs, with a narrative that delivers elegance, subtlety and underlying strength from vintage to vintage. Their latest 'vinematic' incarnation, sourced from several estate blocks, is memorable for the lustrous quality of red currant and raspberry fruit and polished sweet spices, with a virtual potpourri of flavors reminiscent of exotic flowers, dusky roses and warm earth.
