K&L Notes

Opus One was founded as a joint venture between Mouton Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, and in 1984 released its first vintage, the 1979. It has since become an international success and a landmark winery in Napa. The 2007 blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec.

Tasted at the property. From the infamous 2007 growing season in Napa, it is a poster child for a rich, modern vintage and also a fine Opus that highlights the property in the middle of their qualitative rise that took them through the decade. In an ideal drinking window, the 2007 shows plenty of ripeness, a nuanced secondary earthiness, and lush fruit. It is aromatically complex and loaded with dried cherry, good acid, and a layered finish. If you're looking for something that encapsulates 2007 Napa and a bottle that you can open now, this Opus fits that bill.
