The 2004 Barbaresco Bricco Asili is the most beautiful wine I have tasted from Ceretto in a long time. The expression of fruit is wonderfully layered, and is enhanced by the smoke, vanilla and sweet toasted oak flavors that flow from the glass. The wine reveals stunning length and sweet, silky tannins that round out the finish. The use of oak is prominent and obscures some of the detail, but this is nevertheless a gorgeous effort from Ceretto. (AG)
Clean and focused. Wonderfully perfumed, with blackberry, raspberry and a hint of strawberry. Full-bodied, with ultrafine tannins and a long, long finish. Very beautiful and vivid for a young Nebbiolo. The best Asili from Ceretto ever. (JS)
Dark red. Deep, showy aromas and flavors of ripe black cherry complicated by woodsy spices, grilled beef and faded flowers. Tactile and dense, showing a chewy quality and hints of tobacco and licorice on the long back end. Not the most refined Bricco Asili in this tasting, but structured and mouth-filling. (ID)
Good medium red. Crushed raw red berries, rose petal, brown spices and minerals on the slightly reduced, sappy nose. Densely packed and tangy, with a peppery spice character contributing energy to the wine's sweet berry fruit and lingering impressively on the aftertaste. A step up in depth over the Bernadot, with more stuffing to buffer its oak and tannins. This will evolve slowly. (ST) 92+
A full-bodied, juicy red, this is a flashy take on Barbaresco. It balances rich espresso notes with sweet cherry and plum flavors, opting for all-out pleasure over complexity. The finish feels sleek and polished. For a grilled New York strip.
