The Barbour Vineyard is located on the west side of the Napa Valley, just south of St. Helena. The vines, planted in 1992, are a clone from the famed Grace Family Vineyard (incidentally, a vineyard that well-known viticulturist and proprietor Jim Barbour helped develop). Dry-farmed and farmed sustainably, this small production wine (about 500 cases) was made by Heidi Barrett. Composed of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc and aged for 20 months in 60% new French oak. On bottling, it had a fabulous fruit-filled bouquet of kirsch and cassis, vanilla and cigar box. On the palate the fruit was front and center, but it had good tannins and acidity to support its aging for many years.
