The 2006 Ermitage L’Ermite is more focused and reserved compared to the Pavillon, offering beautiful crushed rock-like minerality as well as a massive perfume of smoked meats, black currants, licorice, and Asian spices. It has awesome depth of fruit and concentration, perfect balance, and a great finish, and is another killer Hermitage. This beauty is just now at the early stages of its drink window and has another 3-4 decades of life ahead of it.
More taut, focused and chiseled than the le Pavillon, the blockbuster 2006 Ermitage L'Ermite offers full-bodied richness, a liquid rock-like minerality and sensational notes of black currants, bloody meat, licorice and spice. Reminding me of the 1995, with sensational depth, purity and length, this incredible wine won’t hit maturity for another decade, and will keep for 2-3 decades. Drink through 2050. (JD)
This Northern Rhône red is tightly wound, but also supersleek and racy, with a terrific beam of blackberry and raspberry ganache pushed by graphite, iron and violet notes. Long and extremely precise, with a terrific mouthwatering undertow. *Collectibles* (JM)
Full ruby. A roomfilling bouquet of fresh red and dark berry scents, along with smoked meat, violet, incense and minerals. Wonderfully fresh in the mouth, with vibrant raspberry and black cherry flavors. Gentle tannins rein in the expansive fruit without standing in its way. The finish is all about fruit, with late-arriving notes of black olive and smoky minerals. Extremely sexy now but balanced to age. (JR)
The 2006 L’Ermite boasts a wonderfully fragrant bouquet of cracked pepper, beef blood and plummy fruit, but is a full-bodied, powerful expression of Syrah on the mouth, bulging with crushed stone and espresso nuances. It’s velvety without being soft, the tannins showing supple strength. Drink 2015–2030. *Cellar Selection* (JC)
