Deep, inky ruby. Spicy raspberry and cherry on the nose, with zesty baking spices adding urgency. Graceful and silky, with suave red fruit flavors, supple tannins and good juicy lift. Seems Pinot-like in its balance and fruit expression, finishing with gentle grip and sneaky length. This is extremely attractive right now.
Tasted at the California Wine tasting. The Cuvee Christine has a compact, slightly surly nose, undergrowth, black fruits and a touch of burnt toast. The palate is tannic and masculine, a wine that seems desperate to make an impression, whereas it just needs to relax. The fruit is there, but on the 2006, too much winemaking gets in the way of what should be a great wine. I would cellar this away and hope that it mellows. Tasted May 2009. (NM)
