This is dense, pure, rich and supple, displaying tiers of black cherry and blueberry fruit. Ends with a long burst of flavor. Kosta Browne non-blind vertical (March 2011). Drink now through 2020. (JL, Web Only-2012)
If on the one hand leaning a bit more to ripeness than some in its clan, this big and very outgoing wine is not one for excess, and its abundant, mildly chocolaty, sweet-cherry fruit is matched by a fine sense of structure with ample acidity and balanced tannins providing a fine spine. Its very long fruity finish may take on a slight pucker, but this bottling ranks with the more ageworthy Pinots of the Kosta Browne lot, and it has a most promising future. *Two Stars*
Bright ruby. Intensely perfumed bouquet displays red berries, potpourri and star anise. Michael Browne told me that he used a lot of whole clusters this year 'to increase the spiciness. The fruit is always powerful and I wanted to bring an extra dimension.' Pliant, juicy red fruit flavors are complicated by notes of cinnamon and spicecake, with slow-building smokiness. Finishes with refreshing tangy cut and a strong echo of raspberry. (ST)
