Good medium ruby. Musky, reticent nose. Lush and sweet on the palate, with blackberry, blueberry and smoke flavors complicated by rocky and peppery elements. Plush and ripe yet somehow light on its feet for a wine with alcohol of 15.9%. Finishes long, with very smooth tannins and a concentrated black peppery quality that screams out zinfandel. A terrific showing today.
Dense, rustic and full of personality. Shows aromas of wild berry and loamy white pepper, with layered blackberry and briary sage flavors that linger toward ripe, zesty tannins. Drink now through 2013.
The generous 2007 Zinfandel Rattlesnake Ridge reveals a more floral character intermixed with black fruits, crushed rocks, blueberries, and graphite. It is another impressive, elegant yet full-bodied, powerful Zinfandel to enjoy over the next 5-7 years. As always, a mind-boggling array of Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs has been produced by the world’s premier Zinfandel specialist, Larry Turley. He deserves remarkable credit for his “holy grail” quest to locate largely forgotten parcels of old Zinfandel vines, and preserve as many of these historic sites as possible.
