Orin Swift makes two Cabernet-based wines, both from sourced fruit, the Papillon (which runs about $55 a bottle) and the Mercury Head (which sells for about $75 a bottle). The Palermo is made with the same high-quality fruit, just the lots that didn't make either of those blends for stylistic reasons. The 2009 Palermo is incredibly dense, with ripe currant aromas on the nose balanced by sweet cigar box scents. Those qualities all carry over to the palate, framed by ripe, mouthcoating tannins and a little acidic lift. Long and sweet on the finish.
