Caramel, praline, dried mango pit and dried papaya. Full-bodied and very sweet with layers of apricot and tropical fruit leading to a very oily, nutty finish. The raw power and intensity are unmistakable, but a fine line of acidity still keeps this flowing and food friendly.

The Clos Haut-Peyraguey has a very pure and honeyed bouquet with marmalade, quince and honeysuckle aromas that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is viscous on the entry with very good weight in the mouth. This is one of the more unctuous Sauternes 2001 with a long spicy finish. I can see this aging beautifully over the next 20-odd years. (NM)

Pale orange-gold color. High-toned aromas of apricot, creamed corn, honey and white raisin; gives a slightly roasted impression. Fat, full, superripe and sweet, with an unctuous, toffee-like richness buffered by sound acids and lifted by a metallic minerally nuance. A very large-scaled '01 that finishes with an impressive wave of sweet fruit. A superb performance for this property. (ST)
