The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder has a dense ruby/purple color and a sweet nose of blueberries, black currants, and spring flowers. It is medium to full-bodied and very juicy, with pure, concentrated fruit, sweet tannin, a hint of graphite and a long finish. While it's not the 2007, it's a beauty. Drink it over the next 10-14 years.
The fresh black cherry flavors of this wine have a cool, foresty tone. They add juiciness to the mineral tannins, mellowing the earthy intensity of the cabernet grape skins and softening their grip. Air gentles it further, suggesting it will age well for several years, ready along the way to decant for grilled lamb.
Made in the richly sweet, softly drinkable modern style. With ultraripe fruit and lots of new oak, it dazzles with blackberry and cherry pie filling, cassis, dark chocolate, anise liqueur and caramel flavors, leading to a long, spicy finish. The tannins are thick, but finely ground. You can drink it now, but it should develop for at least eight years and possibly far longer, in a good cellar.
At points supple and generous, with ripe plum and black cherry, mineral and anise notes, yet on the finish the tar- and sage-laced tannins give the flavors traction and depth. Drink now through 2021. (Web-2011)
