Vivid red. Sweet aromas of blackberry, Asian spices and minerals, with a gentle smoky undertone. Red and dark berry flavors are strikingly pure and precise, with an exotic candied rose quality adding complexity. The finish repeats the mineral and floral notes and is pretty much endless. Wow! This wine is made from a West Block selection and includes some suitcase vines that reportedly came from Richebourg. (ST)
(Note from 2008 review, re-reviewed with no new note in 2010) Even better is the dense, purplish 2007 Pinot Noir Little Hill. This wine exhibits more meat, black cherry, and even black currants, with hints of smoke, camphor, and forest floor. Again, uplifted aromatics are backed up by a full-bodied wine with super purity of fruit, a nicely layered mouthfeel, and a stunning finish. (RP)
