The 2009 DuMol Russian River Syrah is a blend of fruit from six vineyards: 34% Trenton Station, 22% Hoppe-Kelly, 16% Gregori, 14% Greywacke, 7% Dry Stack, and 7% Strauss. The combinations of the various soil-types, aspects, and micro-climates of these unique sites yields a Syrah that presents very Nothern Rhone-like aromatics, but with a richness and density on the palate that shows off the overall quality of the 2009 vintage in the Russian River Valley. This is seriously good, meaty Syrah, with classic cracked pepper, smoked meat, and lavender accents, defined minerality, and tremendous length. It has considerable ageing potential. Winemaker's Notes: "Dark purple/black color. Aromatic kaleidoscope: floral, macerated cherry, black raspberry then dusty cocoa, fresh herbs, citrus zest, smoked meat, a whiff of pepper. Chewy, mouthfilling palate but never heavy or cumbersome. Cassis, blackberry, white pepper, anise, tobacco and dark chocolate. Rich, full tannins bring focus and definition. Great purity and dimension - packed with flavor. Coats the palate then a gripping savory finish. Brilliant! Decant for an hour in its youth and drink between 2011 and 2020."
