An equally compelling nose features aromas of dark berry notes that are more animale in character with earth, underbrush, smoke and a hint of leather that is picked up on serious and somewhat cool medium-bodied flavors that are rugged and quite firmly structured on the borderline strict and austere but ripe finish. This needs plenty of time but I very much like the underlying sense of tension.

Pale-medium red. Raspberry and cherry aromas are lifted by ineffable rose petal, minerals and crushed stone. Densely packed, rich and sweet, conveying a sense of brooding power but still a bit angular today. The wine's high-pitched notes of rose petal, blood orange and minerals and noteworthy persistence suggest that my current rating will prove conservative. 91+ (ST)
