The 2009 Capbern Gasqueton, St-Estèphe is a veritable showcase for everything that is right about the ’09 vintage – wonderfully fresh and lively with loads of sweet, dark fruit and positively silky, ultrafine tannins. Add to that a hauntingly floral nose with deft touches of toasty, spicy oak that is just damn sexy. No other word for it. What a pleasure to be able to revisit this wine now four years after release! An outstanding value. Delicious to drink now or to cellar for a few years more.

For value 2009 Bordeaux, nothing beats this wine. There must be a liitle juice from Calon Segur in here. So ripe and sweet and delicious. Toast oak aromas and red fruit flavors. Great spice on the palate. Will cellar ten more years, but why wait? Tonight with a rack of lamb.

Owned by Calon Segur and a superb value, this has striking aromas of potting soil, dark cherries, herbs and dried flowers. The firm and husky middle is filled with warm, dark fruit and a damp clay mineral edge that supports the ripe tannin. This is classic St-Estephe.

As evidenced by the reviews below, this wine is the real deal! In the first of two stellar back to back vintages, this 2009 Capbern Gasqueton Bordeaux has both the vintage and the winemakers working wonders. Mocha, mellow black cherry and blackberry fruit, and vanilla notes alongside great acid and fine tannins. Deftly balanced, delicious now and for years to come. This wine is worth grabbing a few extra bottles for storage.

This shows lovely depth of fruit and fine tannins. Lots of subtle fruit with spices, cedar, and berry. Hints of chocolate. The texture is gorgeous. Same producers as Calon Segur. Two thumbs up !!!

If you don't think Bordeaux offers a good value, this Capbern Gasqueton is ready to prove you wrong! This 2009 is showing super well right now, and seems to have all of the pieces in place to keep for quite a while should you so choose. It has excellent dark cassis fruit and mocha like aromas on its quite complex nose as well as lovely texture and a medium to full body. This fantastic wine has a lot of fruit, but no heaviness or residual sugar... The hardest thing for me will be keeping my hands off of it now so I can have some for later!

Maybe as good a deal as anyone is likely to find in this vintage. Made by the same team from Calon Segur, this is an affordable wine built for the long haul. I bought half a case without blinking. Delicious black cherry flavors with minerality to balance it out. Fine tannins. Buy fast.

Dark crimson color. The nose has beautiful notes of coffee, violets, plums, blackberries and chocolate, along with classic crushed stones. All that transitions on the palate to a very marked chocolate covered cherry, vanilla, balanced by the medium+ acidity and a marked amount of tannins. This is a warm and inviting wine, with a perfect balance between the ripeness of fruit, tannins and the oak notes. Very well put together. It will age beautifully.

This wine has been under the ownership of the Gasqueton family (Calon-Ségur) for 10 generations, and the excellence of the management team shows. The vineyards lie between Montrose and Phelan-Ségur. It was aged in only 1/3 new oak, and only 10,000 cases were made. The nose is bright and fresh with lovely red currant and spice. The palate shows more ripeness to the red fruit with almost heady aromas and plenty of minerality. This is a lovely wine for only $23!
