The Etude winemaking team--Tony Soter, Jon Priest and Franci Ashton--follow a minimal interventionist approach in crafting their Carneros Pinot Noir, which is produced from fruit harvested from the rocky volcanic soils of Etude's estate vineyards in the northwest corner of Carneros. The 2009 represents yet another elegant offering from this critically acclaimed producer that can be enjoyed young or added to the cellar for near-term ageing. Aromas of ripe strawberry, black cherry, and cedar lead on the nose, followed by a palate that continues with red and black berries accented by black tea and exotic spices with mineral underpinnings. It is medium-bodied, with a smooth, supple mouthfeel and delicate, fruit and spice-laced finish.
