Very ripe aromas of plum, almost prune, with dried flowers and cedar. Full-bodied, soft and velvety with loads of fruit and a long, long finish. Best ever from here. Decadent and seductive. Best after 2008.

The deeply-colored 2001 Brunello di Montalcino from La Serena is an engaging effort. Made in a super-ripe, rich style, it offers plenty of cherries in liqueur, licorice, tobacco, menthol and sweet toasted oak flavors on its ample, generous frame with outstanding concentration as well as length and terrific overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2019.
